Don’t Talk Back

Lots of overtime, you’ve learned to tow the line,
Well, that’s commendable;
Break one rule, and I’m no fool,
You’re expendable.

My take – is one mistake;
I can erase you.
So do as you’re told, or your contract’s old;
Plenty more can replace you.

And don’t talk back, ‘cos I don’t like that;
Haven’t you heard?
That it’s my way, or the highway,
I’ll put you on a silver bird,
I’ll put you on a silver bird.

Time to leave? Well, there’s no reprieve;
Who’s next up to bat?
I spent a million or two, recruiting the crew,
You got a problem with that?

And, if you’re wearin’ a skirt, out of the way, babe, you might get hurt
‘Cos this is man’s work
I know where you women belong – it’s not in my song
You make good secretaries, wives, and clerks

And you always talk back, an’ I don’t like that;
Haven’t you heard?
We do it my way, or take the highway,
I’ll put you on a silver bird,
I’ll put you on a silver bird.

So your career’s on hold? You didn’t play as you were told
Now, yeah now, you’re goin’ nowhere,
Does no good to hide; you see, I decide
Who’s gonna get there.

And, if you’re wearin’ a skirt, out of the way, babe, you might get hurt
‘Cause this is man’s work
I know where you women belong – it’s not in my song
You make good secretaries, wives, occasional mistresses, and clerks

And you always talk back, an‘ I don’t like that.
Haven’t you heard?
We do it my way, or take the highway,
I’ll put you on a silver bird,
I’ll put you on a silver bird.
So don’t talk back!
